I'm a proud brown skinned ethnic minority RIGHT WING conservative tea party American.
Agreed. Does anyone doubt that if Paul Ryan announced TODAY, late as it is, that he wouldn't be able to garner HUGE majorities of support? It's almost a no-brainer. Even if he misses some early states--the primary schedule isn't front loaded like last time. Anything can happen in politics. But if it is eventually Mitt or Newt...then when picking a VP they better darn well hit this thing out of the freaking park.
Don't discount anything yet. 58% is no small number, and ENTHUSIASM is a huge factor in getting the base out to campaign, make calls, knock on doors. Nothing in this cycle has been predictable. The negatives of a brokered convention and someone new are much less worrisome than a voting base that will hold their nose. Huge majorities of conservatives gave us the Tea party sweep--but those SAME majorities aren't the ones who selected this field--if they did you wouldn't have Mitt and Paul at the top of the field.
The polls need to be put in perspective. Iowa represents 28 delegates, out of 1,145 needed to win the election. If Romney is at 25% there, that means (nationwide) he's 0.6% of the way. So if Santorum surges from 10 points to 18, that's a fraction of a fraction. About 120,000 Iowans will vote in this non-binding caucus....in a country with 300 million people.
