They agree that the president is not God, and that no one could have fixed this country in 4 years! They are right in that respect.

Not more complicated. Herbert Hoover advised Harding to use stimulus spending, as Obama has done, to get out of the depression, but his advice was rejected. After 1929 crash, Hoover followed his own advice. The result was the depression which FDR, expanding on Hoover's policies, turned into the Great Depression. Europe also went into depression, but not being led by FDR, emerged from it much sooner than the US.
