A Fair Tax That Really Is One

Paul: I have always held that the KISS principle (Keep It Simple, Stupid) is one of life's most important truths. Therefore, to make everything "fair" eliminate all sales taxes. Don't be deceived: you reap what you sow - your solution will create another monstrosity of regulations and bureaucrats that will simply be another big drag on American business and hurt the poor the most.

Yikes! You're right. I hate it that you can't edit your own posts! I think anyone has the right to set up their own company to do whatever they want, whether it be to breed unicorns or replace all the current generating capacity of the U.S. with windmills and solar panels. However, YOU SHOULD WASTE YOUR OWN MONEY WHEN YOU DO IT, NOT THE TAXPAYERS'.

Wow. Already 400 comments. However, there are three issues here. 1. The bad investment. This shows very bad judgment on the part of the govt. but is not necessarily criminal. The second two issues are based on this statement: "In 2010, Solyndra spent $550,000 on lobbying the federal government. In 2011, so far they have spent only $220,000 on lobbying." 2. Why did they give $500M to company that is stupid enough to spend $770M on lobbying rather than producing solar panels? This brings the issue into the area of criminal stupidity or more accurately criminal negligence. 3. It appears the $770M spent on "lobbying" was a bribe to politicians to get money. Now we clearly see criminal corruption in the Obama govt.!

This is a straw man argument. The Govt. has and always will legislate morality. Why are there laws against murder, theft, pollution, not educating your children, etc. Right and wrong must be based on something - and from there you "legislate morality." The only question is, where do you draw the lines?

"Again, so what? I don't care if there are three fathers and six mothers. If it's a stable relationship and the kids are connected with their parents, that's great." And on what planet does this happen. While Libertarianism has many good points, its lack of a basis in morality is its biggest defect.
