if you lump all "Christians" into one group you will see that they comprise the largest group of religious thought. But Christians belong to many different denominations, with Catholic being the largest by percentage (around 23%) the non-religious is around 16%. That percentage is larger than those calling themselves Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist. So you are not talking about a tiny fringe group. (numbers taken from Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life

I don't think there's a God, but I'm wiling to change my mind given convincing evidence.

Aboslutely no empirical evidence that we're less moral than theists. And most of us are agnostic atheists anyway. Not to mention you can be a religous atheist (I'm a Unitarian) or a nonreligous theist. Since you're an agnostic who thinks people who aren't religous are amoral, I'm curious as to whether YOU have a religion?

Nor are they bound by any kind of morality. As an agnostic, I'd MUCH rather deal with a religious person than with an amoral one.

So what you're saying is that even Christians can't agree?

LoachD - no, atheists do not feel threatened. Our brains aren't bound by restricted thought.

A simmering controversy surrounding the "Ground Zero Cross" exposes the intolerance and absolutism behind ongoing battles over religious symbols on public property. Contrary to popular belief, it's not Christian conservatives who normally start these bitter disputes. It's more often atheist activists who seek to alter the long-standing status quo by scrubbing the landscape of the most visible signs of the nation's religious heritage.

American Atheists, an organization representing the civil liberties of agnostics, filed suit in 2011 to block display of the Ground Zero Cross anywhere on the grounds of the new memorial museum planned for the World Trade Center site....
