They do it to disguise the fact that there is no "global warming" -- at least not in the sense that they mean. The long-term warming trend is part of the earth's three-steps-forward-two-steps-back emergence from the Younger Dryas -- the last gasp of the Wurm-Wisconsin glaciation. During historical times we've seen Hannibal march his elephants over passes that, in modern times, are blocked by glaciers and the Vikings settle a truly Green Land of lush pastures for their cattle. We've also seen the Thames river at London reliably freeze so solidly that bonfires could be built on the ice during what's known as "the Little Ice Age". ...

Glacials and inter-glacials are caused by a combination of variations in the sun's output and wobbles in the earth's tilt along with some probable contributions by plate tectonics as the formation and breakup of supercontinents drastically changes ocean currents and from extensive eruption of sheet lavas.

The idea that humankind could impose stasis on an inherently dynamic system that operates on a planet-wide and solar-system-wide scale is hubris at its most foolish.

The idea that we cannot hurt the earth is Polyanna thinking. People thought the passenger pigeons were forever. We killed them all.

We plowed up western Oklahoma and made a dust bowl.

We are not powerful enough to control the earth's climate, but we have the means, with our thousands of coal-fired electric plants, to drive up atmospheric CO2 to dangerous levels.

The passenger pigeon was exterminated because it was poorly adapted to a changed environment. It was not a good thing, but neither did it drastically alter the environment. Other species moved into that ecological niche and thrived there.

Were CO2 levels "dangerous" in the Carboniferous period -- a time of unprecedented and unequaled plant growth?

Here’s my challenge to all the global warming apologists:

Explain to me why the “settled science” of global warming has to manipulate headlines to make information appear scarier and more threatening than the actual data shows.

If global warming is so settled, why do you and your friends take the opportunity to exaggerate, obfuscate and slant every piece of news that comes out to make it seem relevant to today?
