those who are so critical of collective bargaining should look to the past before laborers united to form unions. the information you need is available. look at the early 1900s. remember, those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. as for the political aspects of the unions, just who do you think finances the other guys? hmmm, do you think it could be the multi billion dollar corporations and some of the wealthiest individuals in the Country? the unions probably have access to about 10% of what the other side gets from corporations. most people seem to have no problem accepting the fact of super pacs collecting billions of dollars for politicians, but can't stand unions contributing a very small amount of that.

Unions arose because big business was in bed with government. Now unions are in bed with government. The problem is government meddling with our economic freedom, like the freedom to work for compensation that I and my employer agree upon, the freedom to buy/sell from who we want, and the freedom to do so without government interference.

Before the 1900s businesses abused workers because they and government prevented any competition for the big businesses. Today, unions are doing the same thing.

My mother and father were married in July 1929, just a few months before the stock market crash in October of that year. During the early 1930's, my father literally could not BUY a job, even if he had the money, which he did not. Consequently, employers weilded tremendous power over workers Workers eventually fought back by forming unions. Recall that Henry Ford hired goons to repress union activists. Gradually, the pendulum swung in the opposite direction, until the workers, represented by aggressive unions. demanded excessive wages and benefits. Now, perhaps, we are beginning to swing back toward a balance.

We can only "hope" this is true. More states need to become "right to work". The unions have outlived their usefulness.
