Extremism in Defense of the Welfare State

What's extremism is government welfare. Money is taken by force from taxpayers only to give it to favored individuals. Normally that's called theft. Welfare given by private people or charitable organizations is the only moral welfare. If we want to have government welfare, the recipients should give up their right to vote. After all, if they aren't contributing their fair share to government, they shouldn't have a say in what it does. And if they are unable to contribute, well, life's not fair but at least they're getting money from government and giving up their vote is a small price to pay for "safety."

MoreFreedom: That could be a bad idea as there are many of us that receive some form of government welfare who are conservative or libertarian. If the government is the only source of help in bad times the government is where you have to go. Not all of the people on welfare are happy about it and they will not vote for more.

Welfare used to be a stigma. Today no one is embarrassed to be on welfare. Today's poor welfare recipient lives a middle-class life style. How is it that "poor" people need or can afford cellphones, broadband Internet, high-speed computers, cable TV, large screen TVs or even bottled water.

Personally I hate the fact that I need to rely on the feds for help. God and my family are my main support and I take only what I need from welfare while much more is available to me.

You are correct that there is no stigma today associated with being on welfare. A large portion of the biggest and most profitable companies in our country today not only pay no tax, but have lobbied (bribed) a large group of wealthy people to write loop holes in the tax code to give them extra money back. This same group of welfare queens that run these companies also pay a smaller share of their income to taxes then most of the people working for them. If you don't believe that the social security tax is not a tax, your wrong. It is payed by the poor before deductions. Wealthy people that make income from investments don't pay it.

The theme song of a popular TV show from the last decade featured the lyric "I worry all the time. If you paid attention, you'd be worried, too." It's a wise posture when analyzing the slow-motion crisis that is Europe.

European governments are toppling like clock towers in an earthquake. The Dutch government fell on April 23, when it failed to agree with the opposition on an austerity plan. On May 6, Socialist Francois Hollande defeated France's Nicolas Sarkozy. Greece's ruling coalition has been shattered -- the vote splintered among dozens of small parties.
