Your synopsis is disingenuous because you lumped multiple issues into "he wants to cut spending" while breaking out individual social issues (I note that in your social issues you don't mention home-schooling, gun ownership, etc..., only the ones you pick and choose in order to convince yourself you have less in common with him than you really do).
If you believe that the only way to get things done in America is to do so within one of the two major parties, then you have to choose between Republicans and Democrats. If you take all of Ron Paul's positions (not JUST the ones you agree with or JUST the ones you disagree with), you'll find he has far more in common with Republicans than with Democrats.
Hypothetical question: If the GOP ends up brokered, with no candidate having a majority in the first couple rounds of the selection process, what are the chances that, if Ron Paul's delegates switch to Rand, that others' delegates would follow suit?

As a Ron Paul supporter, and someone that is ideologically libertarian, I will most likely vote Republican in the upcoming election no matter who the nominee is. It's our only chance to repeal Obamacare, and Republican appointed judges in recent history are more libertarian than Democrat appointed judges. Then, I cross my fingers and hope we don't go barn-storming into Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, etc...
You won't get beat up....you're on Chuck Norris' side, no one would get a punch in edge-wise.
I keep seeing others say that Ron Paul is a pacifist, yet he voted in favor of going after Osama bin Laden.
Whenever I take one of those comprehensive online "where are you politically" surveys, I end up right on the border between conservative and libertarian. A couple days ago I found a comprehensive one in which GOP candidate most resembles my views. Ron Paul was of course the highest choice with a score of 84%. That being said, Rick Santorum came in 2nd at 75%, and Romney came in 3rd at 71%. In order for that to have happened, mathematically, they had to have agreed with Ron Paul on more issues than they disagreed with them on.
There is a difference between what people should do and what people should be forced to do. I question how much faith you have in your fellow man given your belief that everyone would be heroin addicts if heroin was legal. Going by your logic, we should bring back the 18th amendment. We see how well that worked.
