Alane, God was in the good people who did what they could to help the victims (some hiding them, some helping them escape, and some of these were found out, arrested, and sent to the camps as well - or killed). No one can answer why God allows the tragedy to happen, but He is seen in the service of those who show compassion and help the victims all they can. I see God in every Salvation Army mobile kitchen - at Ground Zero, at Virginia Tech, at Katrina, in Sri Lanka after the tsunami, etc.

While we can't make God be what we think He ought to be, we can see plainly (if we look) that He calls His people to have Christlike compassion and put that into action. Don't confuse nasty people who wear Christian labels with those who serve their fellowman in humble self-sacrificing action.

I have received messages of concern for our nation’s future. As you know, we have been diligent in praying for God’s will to be done and the decision has been made. That does not mean we stop praying. No matter how you feel about the leadership of our country, they are our leaders and we must pray for them. We must continue to be diligent in praying for a spiritual revival in our nation—truly our greatest need.
