An Uncivil Income Tax System

Never have to file another income tax form for the rest of your life A number for the cost of running the federal government on every cash register receipt Trillions of dollars returned to the U.S. from Switzerland, Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, etc. to jump start the economy and restore "Made in America Millions of new jobs that would come from expanding the GDP by 10 percent Taking control from DC and eliminating tax favors for the special few who can afford to play the lobby game An automatic check every month to reimburse you for taxes to be paid on food, housing and medical costs — $564 for a family of four. All that and more with the FairTax

Ready for the Return of Stimulus?

We need to state the case why the FairTax represents real stimulus. What we have seen out of DC lately is couched as "investment" but turns out in reality to be more like stuffing money down a rat hole. The FairTax, on the other hand, puts money in the pockets of 100 million Americans by allowing them to take home their entire paycheck. For most of us, including sorely put upon small business people who report their profits as ordinary income, this amounts to a 15 to 25 percent raise. Couple that with the repatriation of several trillions of dollars currently hiding out in overseas accounts so as to avoid the punitive tax structure in the U.S., we would see an enormous real stimulus, that does not involve government investment...

Do You Feel Like We Do

It's been a long time since I participated in a campus event of any type, but back in the 60s, anyone who felt they had something to add to the free discussion exercised that First Amendment right without hindrance. I always thought the universities main function was to present a smorgasbord of ideas for the students, and let them draw their own conclusions. Why are so many modern students so threatened by ideas which might be different from their preconceptions? Some people need to begin living the tolerance that they demand from everyone else. And oh, yeah, feelings be damned, it's truth that matters.

Political Judges

Last Tuesday in Minnesota we had 3 Republican endorsed candidates running to replace de facto lifetime State judicial seats. 2 were for the Mn Supreme Court, and the 3rd was for the Appeals Court. This seat has never been selected by popular vote in the entire history of the state. We have a revolving door situation in Minnesota where retiring judges time their announcements so that the Governor appoints the replacement, a few months prior to a general election. When the election rolls around, those judges names appear on the ballot as incumbents. Given so few voters pay any attention to the judicial races, a large preponderance of votes go for the "i"s. Apologists for the status quo have started a PAC to defeat the new...

Well done, Mr. Stokes
Exactly who in the Senate has the stature and legal comprehension to "to engage nominees in meaningful discussion of legal issues"? Surely not Al Franken.

It's Bush's fault. Seriously, every one of these sleights could be seen as petulant reactions to Bush policies, never mind that those policies stand as naturally evolving from prior administrations. Obama's central theme in foreign relations appears to be, whatever Bush did, I will do the opposite.

Black Opportunity Destruction

I had the good fortune of going to school in a small Indiana town in the 1950s. Whatever success I enjoyed in later life, I owe in no small measure to my experience diagramming sentences up to and including my senior year in high school. My teachers were literally "old school", many of them having served 30 years or more in the system.

While I did not fully appreciate what I was given at the time, I certainly do now. I feel great sorrow for the children who came later to a dumbed down, politically correct regime of "self-esteem" and benign neglect.

Hats off to Lynda and all the other conscientious teachers who posted here. They probably couldn't even get a job in today's market.
