Looking at the posts, most of you pretend to ignore the first four words of the amendment: "A well-regulated militia". The founders were considering all citizens to be "militia" in opposition to the possibility of a tyrannical government. Bottom line is that the "militia" needs to be "well-regulated". Based on the occurrence of firearm violence in this country relative to other countries, we are anything but "well regulated". Yes, there must be stricter regulations. Such regulations will have to address the 280 million guns and billions of bullets already "out there", as well as new weapons/ammunition. It will take a generation to fully implement, but we have to start somewhere. Look at Japan's record.
