The problem is the culture, Jonah. In the 60's secular progressives took over the teacher's unions and started the process of turning out like-minded robots. They put rules in place to make it impossible for any but lefty teacher's college graduates to teach. The media were always lefty, and became rabidly so after Vietnam. Ted Kennedy opened the floodgates to poor uneducated Latinos (the educated and successful stayed home) who now vote to turn this country into the very same dysfunctional banana republics they left behind. Martin Luther King was a Republican, but black culture has since been destroyed by the crack cocaine of Democrat welfare and affirmative action. We have to take the culture back. It will require time and focus.

We have to start by getting rid of the teachers' and other public employee unions where we can. and start chipping away at their monopolies. We have to get conservatives to invest in media so as to change the messaging. Buy one of the broadcast networks and a movie/TV studio or two. Elect conservative minorities like Col. West, Mia Love, and Marco Rubio.

The words "government" and "state" are often used interchangeably, but they are really different things. According to the founders' vision, the people are sovereign and the government belongs to us. Under the European notion of the state, the people are creatures of the state, significant only as parts of the whole.

This European version of the state can be nice. One...
