I worked in retail banking for ten years and remember fondly the elderly people who used to come into the bank and want to chat. They would monopolize a teller, or even me, the manager. If we were extremely busy I would have to apologize and end the visit so I could help the other customers who were waiting. Then I would suggest that the next time the elderly person came to the bank, they come mid-week instead of on Friday afternoon or Monday morning, our busiest times. I knew even at the tender age of 22 that the people who do this are in deep need of SOMEONE to talk to and SOMEONE who will listen to them. Show a little humanity, people!

Bottom line, GENETICS are the primary factor in how long you will live, how fat you will be, how healthy or unhealthy you will be. I know people who are food nazis who have rampant heart disease - as do their parents and as did their grandparents, who all died before the age of 70. In my family the last four generations have been people who were mildly obese, ate whatever they wanted and pretty much ALL lived into their mid-90's, unless they smoked and died of cancer.

When the younger people in my life try to tell me what to eat and what not to eat because I should try to make "healthy choices" I find it necessary to point out to them that once you've lived a few decades you'll see that what was once considered carcinogenic is now perfectly harmless; what was once considered absolutely responsible for all fat people turns out not to be; what was once going to kill you tomorrow, 20 years later, well, maybe not. You get the idea. I get so sick of "studies" that are just wasted money to keep college professors employed and give the newspapers something to write about. For every "study" that "proves" that this or that is going to kill you, I can probably find a "study" that says the opposite.
In addition, Obama is also trying to bankrupt the coal mining companies in the Eastern part of the country. He promised he would do this when he ran for office in 2008. Revenues for these companies are way down. It also seriously impacts revenues for Norfolk Southern and CSX railroads, as coal transport is a huge segment of their revenue stream. Oddly, coal producing in the WESTERN states has NOT been as affected. THIS coal is transported by BNSF railroad - Warren Buffet. Does anyone see the correlation here? I have learned over the years that whatever the liberals decry publicly is what they are actually DOING privately.
Warren Buffet owns an interest in producing oil fields in North Dakota. Warren Buffet also bought BNSF railroad a couple of years ago. BNSF railroad will be transporting the OIL from North Dakota to Texas until the pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas is finished. So Buffett will profit handsomely from the oil AND the transportation of that oil. If Obama approved the entire pipeline from Canada, Buffet might lose out on the transportation revenues, plus it would be cheap competition for the North Dakota oil.
In this, as in so many other questions related to politics, one needs only to "Follow the money." Why does Warren Buffett support Obama? Why does Buffett speak out for Obama's desired tax policies? Because, in return, Obama will grant Buffett HUGE favors in terms of signing legislation or blocking legislation or granting "executive orders" that favor Buffet and his business interests. Case in point? The Keystone pipeline. Obama is publicly going along with the section of the Keystone pipeline from Texas to Oklahoma, while continuing to block the section that will actually benefit "We the People." Why? Well, in the first place it appeases his environmental goons and secondly it benefits Warren Buffet. (Cont.)

Blitzing the Department of Education

Sorry Doc. We don't even need standards and practices at the Federal Level. All that does is encourage idiots with PhDs in education to foist their odd theories on our kids from a national platform. Most parents have no idea how their children are being taught. My nephew was struggling with elementary school arithmetic. He just didn't understand it. So I took a look at the arithmetic book his teacher was using, and the worksheets she sent home for homework. What do you know? I didn't understand it either - and I have an MBA from a top school! So I figured out what she was TRYING to teach the kids, and sat down with my nephew to teach him how to do the problems the way I was taught. What do you know? He understood it. the...
EXACTLY!!!!! Rush was just using her own testimony and doing the math.
Bryce, clearly you do not listen to Rush's show. If you did, you would know that what Rush did that day was to take Fluke's own testimony that she has to spend $3,000 PER YEAR out of pocket for birth control, and do the math. It's extremely difficult to spend $3,000 PER YEAR on contraceptives, since birth control pills, which are the contraceptive of choice for most women who are extremely sexually active, only cost $10 - $20 per month - an annual cost of under $250. So what must this woman be doing that she has to spend $3,000 per year? I believe he was trying to figure out how many condoms one would have to buy annually to spend $3,000 PER YEAR on birth control. Or how many abortions one would have to have when the less expensive...
First of all, Rush is not the "head" of the Republican Party. In fact, he laughs at people like you who make that claim. Obviously you are not a listener, you just like to post nasty comments about things you know nothing about except what you read on the Daily Kos.
