Sometimes, it is less benign and they are trying to get something, a law, a ruling, done that is unfavorable to a second group. In my opinion, Obama was selected to be that type of person. What I have read about his family tells me that they would be overjoyed to participate in this. Obama himself-- I don't think he has the drive or desire to devise the program.

The chain of succession for Obama to have gone from Occidental to Columbia to Harvard could not have been accomplished without the participation of those who lead and teach in those institutions. Nonetheless his transition and rise to where he is today was far from accidental.
