In the course of my long career in IT, I encountered many people possessed of high intellect. Yet, among them, were those, who when receiving a raise would protest that it did them little good as it put them in a higher tax bracket. I am talking engineers, folks with MBAs and even higher. Amazing, isn't it? A little common sense and basic grade school mathematics is all that is needed to understand the economics of it, but many failed to understand it. I finally came to the conclusion that it was a form of "sticker shock". When the folks saw that their tax bracket was "higher", a form of panic overcame them and all they could see was the higher tax rate. i

I am from Boston. I live in Georgia. I once followed Jeff's columns . I felt that he was almost alone as a conservative in Ma. I agreed with most of what he wrote. Then, one day, he got into the issue of illegal immigration and expressed horror that illegals were deported or even arrested. He based it on families should be kept--together--in America. I agreed they should be kept together--in their country of origin. His position and his defense of the position caused me to stop subscribing to the Globe and reading his columns. I guess he really hasn't changed much. He can see the sadness of the illegal children, but not the sadness of the thousands of American families affected by illegal immigration,

Linda, Can you not see that you are responding to inner ethnic associations? Can you not see the tremendous fiscal harm that an influx of mot-re low skilled labor will do to us? Can you not see how those currently in country have impacted, economically, our fellow citizens, lowered their wages?? Can you not see that Richardson, Rubio, Gutierrez, Mendez, and almost every legislator of Latino ethnicity, favor granting the world's greatest gift, occupancy of the USA an legal residency to be a n ethnically driven emotion of those of Hispanic blood? There is a little of that in other ethnic groups, but nowhere near the number and intensity displayed by those of Hispanic heritage. Can you explain this??
