How Liberals Argue: Food Stamps Stimulate the Economy

Welfare does stimulate the economy, but it's only a temporary stimulus. If you give everyone $100, most people will go spend it. The economy will be stimulated. But there will be no further stimulus. The only way to permanently stimulate the economy is by improving the business climate and creating jobs.

Improve the business climate and create jobs? Nah! That goes against everything Barack Obama stands for. People who work are less likely to vote for Santa Claus, and might eventually (perish the thought) learn to think for themselves. That is a no-no for a statist, far-far leftist like Obama.

Can't have that. No siree!

Except the $100.00 you gave to everyone as Food Stamps, you took from tax payers, so now we all have $100.00 less to spend.

They only took approximately 60 cents from tax payers and wrote IOUs for the rest.

^^^THIS!! But it actually reduces the $100 return by the amount it costs government to extract and distribute the original $100. So it reduces wealth.

Every Thursday morning I go on the Jon Justice show in Southern Arizona. Today, I made a comment about the glorification of food stamps and apparently that sparked a deluge of calls like the one below in which the caller argues welfare stimulates the economy.

Considering Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks the same way, I'm not surprised.

"It's the biggest bang for the buck."
