Republicans Move to Toss Out Michelle Obama’s Skimpy School Lunch Menu

I agree that this school lunch thing has gotten out of hand. My sister manages some school cafeterias in a Southern California district. She's told me the kids hate the food and throw most of it away. BUT!!!! Mr. Olson is being somewhat disingenuous, or a downright liar with this: "The response from some schools is to install “trash cams” to watch students throwing food away. So instead of changing the rules that aren’t working, they’re going to treat students like prisoners under surveillance." If you go to the link he gives in the original article, you'll see that the article is about a school board member who wants to install "trash cams" in effort to fight against the federal mandates.

Maybe. But you are picking nits.

The far, far greater issue is that the First Lady of the United States, an unelected person, has determined what your children may eat for lunch.

Far more outrageous than "trash cams."

Yes she picks up the refuse "Issues" that her husband does not have the time to deal with or implement on the public -however in the end it is all about loss of freedom and more government control -just a little here and a little there -a little here and a little there and the next thing you know you are wearing a Brown Cotton Sack for a gown -one size fits all and being told who what when where and how -get it ?

If Michelle Obummer is running the school menu now watch out the next one will be the home menu that she has already trying to put in place . Why don't she just eat her chitlins and leave the rest of us alone.

Here's an honest school board member that's NOT trying to treat students like prisoners. He's trying to gather information to push back against the USDA.

I hate anyone, left or right, who assumes I'm too dumb not to read the "footnotes". Kyle probably assumes that no one would click on that "trash cam" link and read the article. Well I did, and I've lost a significant amount of respect for him as being an honest commentator.

I will email him directly and chastise him. But now I'm wondering how many other columns of his I've read, where he was twisting the facts a liitle?

Congressional Republicans are taking action against Michelle Obama’s school lunch menu, which was implemented by the USDA in August.

The modifications to the standards have left students hungry and dissatisfied with their lunch options, according to reports conducted throughout the nation. EAGnews.org has reported about students protesting, a cafeteria employee saying she and her colleagues are barred from serving seconds and forced to throw away extra food, and the National Education Association stating schools should use tactics to “creatively engage and educate students” on the new requirements.
