One point about Julie's column I don't like is her citing the expiration of the "payroll tax holiday" as as a tax increase. The "holiday" was something that Obama pushed, and Congress went along with. I believe it was stupid from the start. Yes, SS is a Ponzi scheme, but Americans have bought into it. Since Social Security is already bankrupt, it was stupid to stop charging for it in the first place. The best solution is vast reform. To call reinstating a temporary relief from a tax, a increase, is tantamount to claiming that just because a grocery store offered a one-week 2-for-1 special on a product, when the special expired they had doubled the price of that product.

President Obama’s State of the Union address recycled the same old tired rhetoric that he’s been peddling since 2009. Instead of addressing how to reduce the nation’s $16 trillion debt and lower the high unemployment rate, Obama proposed more reckless spending and regulations that will further stifle economic growth in this country.

He started his speech with predictable statements on how the economy is allegedly growing stronger—despite the near eight percent unemployment rate calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That official rate does not even factor in the 3.25 million out of work Americans that are...
