I got the same take from Larry's article. I've had e-mail debates with him due to his incorrect data. In fact I had to point out to him one of the "facts" he used in his book jacket was false. Seems the line on their side of the aisle is shorter and doesn't demand facts. He can do better but he won't, the checks are too good. Heck, the still have Armstrong Williams here as a columnest. What does that tell you?
To the poster worried about the President imposing sharia law not to worry, the constitution prohibits the government imposing religion on us. You know that whole seperation of church and state thing Jefferson wrote about. The constitution comes in handy afterall huh?
LBJ's social programs cut poverty in the U.S. by half.
I even read that Sen. McCarthy was right. There was a reason so many in entertainment and in civil rights, including Dr. King, had communist ties pre 1960's. Just like today, real life is a bit more complex than the likes of Hannity and Beck make it out to be. In the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and even into the 60's the communist party and the communist worker's party was one of the few organizations striving for complete intergration and equal rights for all people so it was only natural at a time when there was so much racism and blatant sexism that people interested in equality would align themselves with such organizations. Those like Sen. McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover looking to score cheap political points or further their careers on...
Well De Ranger and Rowley if you can call all sorts of names like school children and tell me how diluted I am for not seeing the obvious that you cannot articulate then you're both right, there is nothing more to talk about. I'm sorry but I don't buy your propaganda about radicals and the prez taking away some sort of freedom. I choose not to sit in fear of some vague sinister plot that you never explain. So tell me oh great minds, what EXACTLY is his diabolical plot and how EXACTLY will it be implemented? Just because I have a different political view than you I hate my country? How immature is that point of view? The constitution and laws of this land are strong enough to survive almost any president so I'm not going to cower in fear...
Ignoring our 4th amendment rights and suspension of habeus didn't scare you? Interesting.
First off I am not a Democrat so let's end that right there. Secondly much of our current and future deficit was caused by three things directly related to the previous administration 1. massive tax cuts for the wealthy 2. two unfunded wars that were actually left off the books until the current President actually and honestly accounted for them and 3. a financial meltdown caused by a lack of oversight. I am a socialist and wouldn't mind seeing the U.S. make more strides to becoming a true socialist nation but it isn't. If you can I would love to see the evidence you have to support the notion we are becoming a socialist nation because I just don't see it. There have always been some elements of socialism here but I don't see anything...
yes we are better off right now than we were a year ago. I am also a hard working person who is the son of hard working parents and for some reason I don't worry too much about lazy people or people trying to game the system, that's just me. I do however see the benefits of a social safety net for those who are unable to work or provide for their family. It's like insurance, we pay into a system that will take care of us when we retire or become unable to work. I have seen this work for some of the people I know. For example, a fraternity brother's mother had a dehabilitating disease that robbed this hard working woman of the use of her legs first and then continued to render her bed ridden. I know for a fact she would have given...
I do lean towards Marxism but that is because in my community we have a different view of Marxism and communism than the greater population. I can explain more on that topic if you'd like but a good study of Asa Phillip Randolph and Bayard Rustin would put you on the right path. Just because I have a different political opinion and philosophy than you does not make me ignorant but from what I see many posters here believe their opinion is the only one that matters and everyone else is wrong. This is a richly diverse nation and all ideas and opinions are at least worthy of consideration. I consider conservative opinions but I disagree with many and obviously so did the majority of Americans who voted for our current President. He may be...
I live in Chicago and I have personal experience with some of the supposed "extreme" elements those who only watch Fox believe he has. If I only watched Hannity I might be afraid of Rev. Wright but since I grew up listening to him, have friends and family that attend or have attended his church and have actually worked with his church to get kids into one of my aviation camps I know what he and his church are really about and I don't get my opinions from one minute sound bites. I like to actually research things and go beyond the surface as do many of his appointments and inner circle. There is an attempt to demonize the prez and make him look evil or subversive but I know the game. C'mon, you really believe he is some kind of communist...
