Arrogance

Arrogance is indeed the problem in Washington DC. Our career politicians believe that their Ivy League degrees place them on an intellectually superior pedastal. They believe that us mere mortals are too dangerous to make our own decisions or have personal responsibility. In their infinite wisdom they want to decide for us our medical lives, what cars we drive, what we eat, our school cirriculum, our salaries, our loan worthiness, and on and on. Who really believes that these people are that smart? Who want to give these people this much power? America, please wake up. Many of our politicians may be "book smart", but most of them lack an ounce of common sense. The beauty of our founding documents was their simplicity. We do not...

I agree with you and another poster reminding me of Ford's strong UAW ties. I still think it is better to buy Ford right now than GM or Chrysler. Despite whatever Ford wanted to receive, they didn't. They are the only non-socialist American car company.

Your post office is still standing because it does not have to be profitable to keep standing. Politicians and government hacks can borrow from social security and medicare ponzi schemes, raise taxes on you and me, or create money out of thin air via the Fed to make sure that your post office stays afloat.

The fact that some airlines, car companies and banks go under is not evidence that the free markets are deficient. Business failures are a necessary part of capitalism. What is not necessary is government intervention in these businesses -- which is the primary cause for most of the failures.

Treat health insurance like car insurance. Customers can select what coverages they want, including catastrophic only coverage, pregnancy cost coverage, etc. In fact, health insurance should really only be for catastophic and major life events. Routine doctor visits, checkups, et al should be paid for out of pocket. Insurance is for covering large risks, not routine costs.

Catastrophic only policies would be affordable for all, especially if people would demonstrate that health insurance is a priority to them, rather than cell phones, cable tv, internet access, cigarettes, starbucks, etc. How can I pay for someone else's health insurance when they have all of these frivolous expenses in their lives while claiming they cannot...

Obamacare's Inevitable Logic

Liberals have to explain why they are opposed to the big evil health insurance companies "rationing" care in the form of denying or cancelling coverage, but they think the inevitable rationing of care based on age and overall health is super?

Could it be the neither answer is good and that we need to look to unregulated, free market solutions such as more variety of coverage (i.e. catastrophic policies), the ability to shop for insurance across state lines, and whole life health insurance that you obtain when you are 20 that covers you for life?

"Better" Health Care?

Mike1058 Wrote: Jul 01, 2009 10:05 AM
We already do have rationing and our system is already broken. This is the result of Federal Government intrusion into a free market. The HMO Act of 1973 and Medicare/Medicaid all took away the power of the individual to determine fair prices and handed that power over to the government and government sponsored companies. The inherent price fixing in these programs is largely responsible for the high cost of health care in this country. We need to unwind all Federal Government involvement in health care and leave it to the free market of individuals and doctors to determine fair prices. Some people like Phylo and Foxy either think individuals are too stupid to handle this, or they want to give up all of their individual rights to...

that I am a racist because I oppose ObamaCare. Does he think that Thomas Sowell is a racist too??? The reality is that conservatives like me would vote for Sowell, Herman Cain and many other like minded black men without hesitation. Call me what you will, I will not apologize for my opposition to socialism.
