Your post reminds me of that editorial in a Czech paper several years ago, and it haunts me to this day. Essentially, the column posits that a republic can indeed recover from the damage done by one man in 4-8 years. What's more difficult, if not impossible, is to recover from the fact that >50% of the population bought, and continues to by in to the idea that gov't is a large pinata to shake largess out of. That rings very true for a lot of us, and it's not exactly cause for hope.
