"Pristine" in the view of many environmentalists means sans human presence. Yet these same environmentalists have no comprehension that humans have been an integral part of North America's prairie and woodland habitats for tens of thousands of years. Fire is vital to the forest management through regular burning. It had been practiced by early man to control underbrush in forests and prairies and today is still practiced on private and limited public lands if invasive species are to be controlled. Those that love open spaces for recreation and the sheer beauty are the true environmentalists. The wacko's who would limit human presence in order to preserve the warped world view of "pristine" environments are essentially clueless.
