NBC: Er...Sorry for Making George Zimmerman Look Like a Racist

So NBC apologizes. What are the legal rights that the Zimmerman family have regarding NBC and its deliberate attempt to defame his character by altering the tape? That is the question worth hearing the answer to as well as what legal responsibilities do Al Sharpton, Spike Lee and other activists bear if people are killed, maimed or injured as a result of their whipping up racial anger? Can they face criminal and civil charges?

The Zimmerman's could sue for defamation, George specifically. Libel could attach. As for Sharpton and Lee...battery, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress. I'd throw the Second Restatement of Torts at both.

Thanks for the reply. Those would be lawsuits that would be news worthy. Social activists need to be held accountable for their actions. That yellow journalism has become prevalent again is most disconcerting and irresponsible activist networks need to be held accountable as well. I hope that the Zimmermans make examples out NBC, Sharpton, Lee and the rest.

NBC News has issued an apology after the network aired, multiple times, a tape of the 911 call Zimmerman made to police about Trayvon Martin, portraying him as a racist. This was no mistake, by the way. The audio was deliberately and maliciously edited to make Zimmerman look like a racist in order to push a narrative. I wrote about the embarrassment surrounding this case last week.

Here's what NBC aired and claimed Zimmerman said:

"This guy looks like he's up to no good...he looks black."

Here's what Zimmerman actually said:

Zimmerman:...
