A free press must also be responsible for what they publish if it turns out to be factually inaccurate then a retraction of the story is required. If a publication stands behind factually inaccurate stories then it can and should be taken to court for liable since they are standing behind a demonstrably false story with malice. The rest of your post deals with fantasy. Republicans are many things but they aren't the ones attempting to change how the Supreme Court Justices get the job. That seems to be the cry of the liberal who don't like the current court. Republicans may not like decisions but like most things that can be corrected with time. After all, the republicans did manage to get the Jim Crow laws over turned.
