"And it's their lifestyles being voted on." ergo Union stooges are motivated by politics. This is by design.
I disagree with your premise that there should be a government owned company.

Class warfare is how the Left scrapes votes off the bottom of the barrel, people who have given up on themselves, their future and everyone else. These people belong in a third world country under a dictator.

Dear Jonah, It was a con-game started by academics that spread to politicians. It was sold to the public using apocalyptic hysteria. Since "green" was touted by those perceived as being our best and brightest, many people believed they would save the world following prescribed beliefs. Alas, the good the conservation movement did was usurped by the power-hungry for their own ends. Now any conservation effort is met with skepticism as just another power-grab. Being "green" has also entered the world of identity politics, that is to say it is it's own irrational science. At the current time, energy harvesting is a boondoggle. That won't stop opportunists from trying so as to wring every dime they can out of the tax payer.

The problem with socialism is that productivity is voluntary and consumption isn't. Socialists actually flip that around and expect it to work, then it blows up in their faces.

Taking gays serious was laughable, this is just sad.
Dem's have nothing to run on - social democracy is a failure, so who needs them? It's time to have a philosophical discussion on what kind of government we want. Running open-loop isn't working neither is the Hegelian "ever expanding state" thesis. Capitalism is what works in a country of grown-ups.
