Scaring the Horses: Britain's Tories Back Unmarriage

The issue isn't so much that gay marriage is "counterfeit" marriage so much that by including gay couples under the umbrella of "marriage," you strip away a good deal of what marriage means. Marriage has traditionally affirmed two natural truths: (1) the human race normatively exists as 2 distinct and complementary populations, male and female, and (2) it takes the union of a male and a female to make new human beings. Marriage is a social institution that recognizes and affirms these two truths. But if you throw gay couples in under the umbrella of marriage, now marriage necessarily no longer means that. You don't have the human race symbolically represented by a man and a man or a woman and a woman. You don't get kids from those pairings.

In other words, the only way that you can include gay couples under the umbrella of marriage is to make marriage mean less than what it did before. That's not fair to heterosexual couples who have done nothing to deserve having this natural meaning stripped out of their marriages -- they are having their marriages degraded for the sake of those whose abnormal desires cause them not to desire marriage. The answer isn't to change -- lower, rather -- the definition of marriage to suit gay couples, but rather to do one of these two things: (1) create a new relationship (i.e., civil unions) to include gay couples, or (2) recognize that homosexual relationships are abnormal and shouldn't exist, much less be celebrated and protected by government.

Britain’s Conservative Party, the Tories, lost an empire when America rebelled against their tyranny and foolishness. Edmund Burke said then: “Great empires and little minds go ill together.” Now, the Tories are preparing to lose Britain itself.

How so? The Tories are ending marriage. Of course, that’s not what they think they are doing. They think they are simply acknowledging that Sir Elton and his significant other are as “married” as any other British couple. It used to be said of the Britons with their stiff upper lips that they don’t care...
