Same for immigration, don't try to be the party of closing the borders and kicking the illegals out, that's never going to happen and everybody knows it. Be the party with the better immigration plan, more fair, more business friendly, more pro family. Or gun control. Don't be the party of no gun control, screaming about the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment. Obviously some gun regulation is necessary, nobody can own a tank. So the argument is where to draw the line, so argue for a smarter better place to put that line, instead of waving the flag and crying that somebody is coming for your guns. That comes off as juvenile, stupid. Don't be the party of stupid, as Jindal said.

However, “we do need to re-orient our focus to the place where conservatism thrives – in the real world beyond the Washington Beltway.”
