Excellent point. The right to life is a fundamental God-given right, as expressed in the Declaration of Independence ("life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"). If you have a right to your own life, then by logical extension you have the right to defend your own life, which includes the use of guns if that is how the individual so chooses to defend himself or herself. This would be true even if there were no second amendment.
