Gee, let's ban the flu as it kills so many people. Levity aside, I will get a flu shot when they actually manage to make one that does not involve contact with eggs. Has anybody heard of any research in this direction. little side note...if eggs in the store are so fresh, why do I have reactions to them and not to 2-4 week old farm eggs? Where is the truth in advertising?

My info is old, but in the latter part of the last decade, the government was offering a fair amount of money to anyone in biotech who could develop a non-egg-based process. I left the industry in 2008, but at that time, the technological challenges of doing so were not anywhere near being overcome. Viral manufacture is hard already, and the influenza viruses are particularly difficult.

I am good about getting my shots. At my advanced age I was supposed to get a pneumonia shot and a shingles shot, so I got them.

I also got a flu shot. I didn't get a flu shot in Tanzania or Kenya. I got it at my Doc's office on K Street so I can only assume it was full strength.

Next year, I'm going to ask for super strength, because if I don't have the flu, I have a really, really bad cold.
