One argument I did not hear Hugh make on the radio is that Aluminum bats have performance factors tied to them. Leagues can control the bat by specifying the maximum performance level for bats at their league level. It is printed right on the label

I get very worried a little league Majors games when a 6 foot 12 year old comes up to bat and the pitcher is 40 feet away, and I've seen my share of kids get hit, but you remedy this by controlling the bat performance, not it's made of!
