Chevy Volt Follows Stupid 2012 with Stupider 2013

I thought hating American industrial companies was the bailiwick of the left, but Mr. Ransom seems to have more than his share of contempt for Genera, Motors. Some facts: The Volt was never meant to be the company's savior. The Volt predated the US bailout of GM. In fact, one of the reasons the Feds bailed GM out was because they were so close to producing the Volt. While it is true that Volt sales are only a fraction of projections, projected sales represented only a sliver of total revenues. Once again, the Volt was never meant to be the company's savior. If GM overestimated the size of the alternatively fueled market, so did a lot of other company's, most economists and marketing prognosticators, as well as most government experts.

GM stopped being an American industrial company when the federal government bought stock in it. Prior to GM, the largest quasi-governmental corporations in this country were Fannie Mae and freddie Mac, who wrecked the economy.

Liberals never miss a chance to double down on failure.

You are forgetting the input of the Car Czar. Obama's Car Czar wanted the Volt built no matter the economics of the situation. Also, you are missing Obama's visits to Michigan and Ohio to promote the Volt as an energy issue on the tax payer's dime as cover for his campaigning. The Volt was sold as economically priced. Ford's Tesla, which actually is a mroe reliable, sleaker, and appealing vehicle, base price was $50,000 (the really fun version is $100,000) when the Volt was introduced at over $40,000. With no resale value and a better competitor that realized it was building for a nich market, the Volt was produced and marketed at the insistance of the Obam administration as a car for ordinary people. If GM would have gone through a normal bankruptcy (not stiffing the bond holders), then the Receiver would have never OK'd the building of the Volt with no provable market as advertised. The Volt was a political car and just because it was on the drawing board before the bankruptcy does not avoid this truth.

I can't speak for Ransom, but it's the bailout part I don't like.

If GM wants to whizz away its own cash, there's no objection, but expecting uncounted generations of taxpayers to bankroll their folly with no input, it becomes a huge problem.

I just want a full and complete recovery of ALL the taxpayer cash that Obooger illegally "invested" in this company that should have been allowed to go bankrupt. Instead we get the asinine reVolt and autos that aren't worth spit.

After a year that can only be described as “stupid,” the Chevy Volt is gearing up to make 2013 even stupider still.

I know, I know.

You find it hard to believe that a mostly-owned subsidiary of the United States government and the Obama administration- like GM is- could get any stupider than say Fannie Mae, or Federal Reserve Bank.

Yes, that’s tough competition, but in the “idiocy” category GM seems to be the ruling champion.

Not only have they lost substantial amounts of taxpayer dollars, they have managed to do it while generating record profits...
