Libertarians, by and large, ignore the role religion and family play in a society. They may know a lot about Adam Smith, and agree with Thomas Jefferson, but they tend to ignore the likes of George Washington, who pointed out Indispensible Supports that keep a society Free, and what he was talking about was the tendency of people to fall prey to their own desires and lusts, and being subverted from without. We suffer from that today. A culture cannot remain free if its citizens do not understand their civic duty to be mindful with the Freedoms they have.
You do, for one. You just don't know it, because you don't think about what you believe. Most libertarians don't. Libertarianism is mainly an economic ideology, based on laissez-faire policies as espoused by Adam Smith and Ludwig von Mises. What libertarians have done is merely extend such ideas into socio-political strata, in so doing failing to understand the nature of human beings, and of human societies, giving very short shrift to personal responsibility. Not that I'm saying they're not willing to take on the consequences of their own bad choices (or good choices, for that matter). What I'm saying is they do not promote good choices. They do not promote good behavior that avoids problems.
The former ultimately sees government as nonessential, and you end up with a very amoral society as a result. The latter leads to totalitarianism, and you get a very immoral society. The Conservative position takes both into consideration, seeing a purpose to the liberties we have. The right to free speech is for the pursuit and propagation of Truth and Knowledge. The right to bear Arms is for personal defense of ones life and property. Every Right we have has a primary purpose. Sadly, the Left, as well as most Libertarians, never understand that.
To the Left, and to most Libertarians, Freedom means License. It means they feel they can do whatever they want without consequence, or without someone telling them not to. See, idiots like to believe they have a right to debauch themselves, but they mistake a right for a privilege. Just because you can doesn't make it a right. They don't, because they're not on this world for the sake of pleasure, and it isn't to get stoned or fornicate til their heart's content. Freedom has two parts: Liberty, and Purpose, and they must always go together. Those that focus on the liberty side of the equation see Freedom as something to do as you Please. Those that focus on the Purpose side see Freedom as something you Must do.
John, are they really this clueless, or is it by design? If so, to what end? What do socialists like Hollande and Obama want in the end? I know it's power, but real power requires a productive purpose, otherwise it's self-destructive. I find it tough to believe that even Obama doesn't understand how a nation builds wealth and prospers. I'm starting to think France was far better off under Louis XVI.
Until they can make a viable electric airplane, I'm going to stick with internal combustion. I like my Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500 Supersnake, and I ain't letting that go. Just wondering, out of a need to know, is it certain that GM or Nissan would've made such cars had the American government not done its level best to "create" an incentive to have them in the first place?

And people like you like to wallow in your own filth. You're so mired in it you think it's "normal."

Matthews is Scum. It is he and his ilk who think blacks are sub-human. They think they cannot make it in America without their help, without government's help. They can't imagine that maybe they might adapt, change, and grow better as individuals to be prosperous. They think that if a black man is "articulate" that must somehow mean he's either sold out or he's simply been trained by the likes of them. Who's the real racists? It has always been Democrats.
