Great column! Look at the election of 2008. Why was Obama elected? 1. He spoke well. 2. 3. That's it. When his voters were interviewed, they were awed by the charisma. They didn't vote for his ideas. They voted for him.

McG: "They didn't vote for his ideas. They voted for him."

Of course! That's what ALWAYS happens. That's the point of Hunter's article, and he's fundamentally right. Charisma trumps everything else in presidential elections. Consistently, every time since 1980, the major-party candidate with the greater public charisma won.

Romney was a manager, not a leader. He excited NOBODY (except Ann Coulter).

Having a high-charisma candidate excites your base and draws the low-information voters (see, e.g. Pres. BO).

Aw, give it a rest. There is no credible evidence of widespread cheating in either election. Get used to the idea that you belong to a dying movement that can't die fast enough for the good of a country that desperately needs to move into the 21st century instead of wallowing in 19th century nonsense.

Infighting continued amongst conservatives and Republicans this week. Karl Rove angered Tea Partiers by implying they don’t know how to pick candidates. Majority Leader Eric Cantor told anyone who would listen Republicans need to learn to craft their message better for a broader audience. Every conservative group and politician is scrambling to find a way to appeal to various groups of Americans in a way that will “work” to win them votes. It reeks of desperation…and it’s nothing new.

After every election loss by Republicans in the last 20 years, the media has declared them dead, particularly the conservative wing of...
