Most likely because of increased Obamacare costs, which cause increased prices, and then resulting lower sales due to high prices. Sinking sales do tend to make positions redundant for most companies...

I didn't realize that the federal govt was going into the medical device business as part of Obamacare. How exactly did Obamacare make any job at a medical device company redundant? Maybe the government is going to take over the AP dept? Or do you just believe every poorly written PR statement you read without questioning it as long as it sort of plays into your pre-determined narrow world view?

The sad part of this is these jobs were private before. Now Obamacare will take on these positions, using tax money, and the costs will be much higher than if the jobs had remained in the private sector.

As if today’s announcement from the Obama administration regarding the minor changes to the Affordable Care Act was not depressing enough, a global medical company called Smith and Nephew has now said that they are going to layoff nearly 100 workers in their Tennessee and Massachusetts offices. The company cites ObamaCare as their reason why.

"Unfortunately, and in order to absorb this cost burden into our business, this has meant less than 100 positions have been made redundant across various departmental functions in our Tennessee and Massachusetts sites," they said in a statement released earlier this week.
