Trapper1527, first as a responsible gun owner I am appalled at all deaths perpetrated by criminals. I also think that any crime committed with the aid of a gun should get an automatic 20 years. Second, I don't have assault rifles, they are personal defense firearms. I'm not assaulting anyone other than a criminal with an intent to harm either me or my family. Second, learn the difference between a Class III firearm and one owned by a private individual. From your use of the incorrect terms your lack of knowledge is evident. Please stop reading the New York Times.

Once again trapper, learn the difference between Class III firearms and those available to civi's...ok? There is no such thing as 'high capacity magazines', they are normal capacity. PLEASE learn about firearms and STOP with the NEW York Times!

that means retaining the ability to form militias, with privately owned militia weapons.
THAT is the reason for the Second Amendment.

then you obviously don't get the second amendment. the second amendment is for the peoples protection from the government.

During the LA riots of 1992,the police REFUSED to enter the riot zone to protect citizens, and Korean shopkeepers used "assault weapons" to hold off the rioting mob that came to burn them and their families alive in their shops/homes. that's just ONE good reason, not that we need ANY reason to own them.
it also is justification for 30 round magazines, you need firepower to hold off a riot mob.
Not that we need any justification.

the Second Amendment is NOT about hunting and sporting.it's about the people retaining the ability to "alter or to abolish" a government gone bad,as written in the Declaration of Independence.

I own guns. I am a bird hunter and have a pistol for "protection." By all means, keep your guns for hunting, sport and defense. You do not need an assault rifle with a high capacity magazine for any of the above mentioned activities

The National Rifle Association has accepted an invitation from the White House to engage in a discussion as part of Vice President Joe Biden's gun task force. More from The Hill:

Biden will meet Wednesday with gun-safety organizations and shooting victims groups and on Thursday will meet with gun ownership organizations and sportsmen who use guns recreationally, according to the White House.

NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said the organization accepted an invitation received from the White House late Friday.

"We are sending a rep to hear what they have to...
