The issue here, Mr. Thomas, is not judgment vs. judgmentalism but simply whether you have told the truth. In your August 26 column, you write, " Many on the Right hated and demonized him, but I don’t ever recall his responding in kind." Given this statement, I assume, Mr. Thomas, that you suffer from some form or Alzheimers or lapse of memory, and have not intentionally misrepresented the facts. The facts are, however, that Ted Kennedy frequently slandered and demonized opponents with demonstrable and blatant untruths. For example, in opposing President Reagan's nomination of Robert Bork to the United States Supreme Court, Kennedy stated that Bork's public record showed he was "hostile to the rule of law" and that he had "harshly...
