So who in Washington DC came up with this brilliant idea of issuing an ATM card for food stamp benefits? And which Agency Official approved it? This was another example about big government not having a clue how to run these kind of programs.

Oh, they know exactly how to run such programs. Their cost never goes down, their staffs never shrink, their dependents never become less numerous or more politically independent, the arguments for pouring ever more money down these ratholes never become more coherent or less strident. The people behind these programs have a real gravy train, and its engine burns other people's money. It'll be a fine ride till the money runs out. When a lot of welfare addicts suddenly go cold turkey, the results will be spectacular.

The programs are running fine. Nobody in the real world cares if the disadvantaged want to have a little fun now and then.

The people who came up with this can be easily identified by the (D) behind their names.
From New York to New Mexico and across the dependent plains, welfare recipients are getting sauced on the public dime. Drunk, besotted, bombed. But while politicians pay lip service to cutting government waste, fraud and abuse, they're doing very little in practice to stop the EBT party excesses. Where's the compassion for taxpayers?

You see the signs everywhere: "We accept EBT." Fast-food restaurants do. Clothing retailers do. Auto repair shops, liquor stores and even sushi joints are joining the club. "EBT" stands for the federal government's electronic benefits transfer card, which is intended to provide poor people with food stamps and cash...
