The humor was a bit arch, but a very good column, about as good as one can write about utter madness without going mad. Tufts is a private institution, so it is free to engage in all kinds of folly that should be off-limits to its publicly supported counterparts. Evidently Tufts takes that freedom, at least, very seriously; for it seems to engage in ALL kinds of folly. Somewhere in its ivied halls, earnest academicians are undoubtedly trying to square the circle or design a bottle with the opening in the middle. It's incredible that people still go into debt sending their children to this ridiculous place.
Tufts University, a private school in Massachusetts, has now officially ceased to be a university. Tufts has a national reputation for heavy handed suppression of free speech despite its close proximity to places where many of our nation's first great free speech victories were fought and won. Few who are familiar with Tufts will be surprised to learn that their student government has initiated measures to de-recognize a Christian group because its leaders are required to adhere to "basic Biblical truths of Christianity."
