What's really funny is that cops, teachers and fireman aren't paid for with federal monies. My brother-in-law was showing me around a suburb of Detroit in the mid-nineties. On one side of the fence was Farmington Hills, where first responder time was 2 minutes. On the other side was Detroit (which looked like a war zone) where response was over 40 minutes.

It’s fitting that on the day Washington, DC is cutting the budget by an agreement that they really didn’t mean, that the city of Detroit will finally get what’s it has needed for a long time: declaration of fiscal disaster.
