I have seen serious damage caused by people being able to say and publish whatever they want. In other more civilized western cultures, the government can stop the press from publishing things it finds harmful. Clearly, our fixation on the 1st Amendment makes us think too highly of our right to say what we want. We should make people pass a psychiatric test before they be allowed to speak or publish anything. This would keep all the dangerous ideas from getting out. We should also make people pass a psychiatric test before being allowed to play a violent video game or watch a violent movie. If we're going to surrender our rights to the government, why stop at the 2nd amendment?

PARIS -- Anyone who can't withstand a rational debate on the subject of gun control -- particularly in light of last week's Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Connecticut -- should be automatically prohibited from ever owning a firearm. In fact, this should be the number-one requirement of gun ownership: Can someone applying for ownership of a deadly weapon withstand an hour-long debate against someone in favor of gun control without resorting to physical or verbal assault?
