Why This Obsession With Iran?

I couldn't agree more. Pat is not stupid, though his thinking (not to mention his "historical writing" is often sloppy and filled with inaccuracies.) So it's not so much that he isn't aware of the truth, but it's not a cause of concern because wiping Israel off the face of the earth would be just fine for him. He's an anti-Vatican II reactionary Catholic whose heroes include Franco. He was brought up steeped in theological Jew-hatred and he never matured and outgrew it. I know that sounds simplistic, but it's the missing clue that explains the riddle. (Missing in this piece, at least. Elsewhere he's made his anti-Semitism painfully clear.)

Thus did supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declare in February that Iran's possession of atomic weapons would be a mortal sin against Allah.

It is also the unanimous judgment of the U.S. intelligence community, declared in 2007 and affirmed in 2011, that Iran has abandoned any program to build nuclear weapons.

Is the Ayatollah lying? Is the entire U.S. intel community wrong?
