The federal government had a surplus of 86 billion when bush took office. In 8 short years he turned that into a 642 billion deficit.

Clearly tax cuts should be extended for everyone. I think it is pretty clear that a return to the Clinton-era tax rates would be a disaster. Just think of the ecomonic unrest during his years as president. Our 4.7% deficit turned into a 2.4% surplus while federal spending was cut to 18.4% of GDP and inflation rates dropped to 2.3%. Or as the republican party calls it - communism
