Industrial Wind: The Great American 'S-WIND-LE' -- Not Clean, Not Green, Not Free! ~ Industrial Wind turbines are being sold under the pretense that they will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, and thereby help avoid Global Warming. Yet, 30 years into subsidizing the building of wind factories off the backs of taxpayers and ratepayers has proven otherwise. ~ With approximately 250,000 industrial wind turbines installed worldwide today (45,100 turbines totaling over 60GW of installed wind projects in the USA, according to AWEA), CO2 emissions have NOT been significantly reduced, nor has a single conventional generation plant - including coal, been decommissioned thanks to industrial wind. ~ Due to the unreliable, erratic, and volatile nature of wind, industrial wind turbines need constant "shadow capacity" from our reliable, dispatchable generators - that is, if you want to be sure the lights will come on when you flick the switch. Thus, as Big Wind CEO, Patrick Jenevein candidly admitted, "Consumers end up paying twice for the same product." ~ All things considered, including demand levels and import/exports - the more wind installations we add, the more we must add fossil-fueled generation. ~ The TRUTH: Wind generation locks us into dependence on fossil fuels. ~ Adding wind as a supplement to our conventional generating system requires so much supplementation that in many areas of the country, adding wind actually causes increased CO2 emissions in the production of electricity than would be the case with no wind at all. Iowa exemplifies this -- As Iowa's installed wind capacity has increased over recent years, so has their coal use and CO2 emissions. ~ ONE (1) 450 MW Combined Cycle Generating Unit located at New York City (where the power is needed in New York State), would provide more power than all of New York State's 16 installed wind factories combined, at 1/4 of the capital costs -- and would have significantly reduced CO2 emissions and created far more jobs than all those wind farms – without all the added costs (economic, environmental, and civil) of all the transmission lines that must be added across the state to New York City. ~ Industrial wind supplies electricity, and therefore, has nothing to do with our "foreign oil dependence" created by gasoline and diesel fuel needs...... THANK YOU Marita, for including info on the recent rash of GE 1.6 catastrophic blade failures in your column here on Townhall.com! When others in the media are purposefully choosing to ignore reporting on this dangerous situation, and the costly green 'boondoggle' that wind is to all taxpayers & ratepayers, you are speaking out on behalf of ALL of us who are having these bird-chopping monsters crammed down our throats for what is a complete scam! THANK YOU, Marita! By the way, the GE 1.6-100 blades that are blowing up actually weigh 22,000 pounds per blade - that's 11 TONS per blade! How would you like a piece of an 11-ton bomb flying towards your home or car? The willfully ignorant politicians who are allowing this (whether directly involved, or just ignoring the situation by saying "This is a local decision"), are ALL complicit in what is nothing less than criminal negligence on their parts. First and foremost, our 'public servants' are supposed to be working to protect the health, safety and welfare of their constituents -- not the financial interests of rich corporations seeking to get richer off of taxpayers & ratepayers backs! People tag themselves with labels to gain power, and then they sell out to the highest bidder -- typical of the corrupt human condition. Supposed "Tea Party" people have no business picking and choosing the winners in the energy market place! They are no better than "RINO" Republicans. Now we have to deal with "TINO" Tea Partiers. How disgusting. Most of these hypocrites don't even know the difference between energy & power.
People need to wake up to the fact that it's NOT just Democrats!!! Republicans Chuck Grassley and Steve King of Iowa are two of the WORST wind welfare queens!
The problem is - industrial wind exists today because of Republocrats like Chuck Grassley and Steve King of Iowa, who keep voting yes to keep the wind welfare rolling in to their states. If they'd use their brains and stand up for what's right - instead of for the best payoff they are receiving - the industrial wind issue would have been swept into the dustbins of history a longgggg time ago!
They're still working on the transmission line problems for those electric cars. Check it out at: http://windtoons.com/images/f7Wind-Turbine-Car-and-Truck.gif

As is to be expected, AWEA salesman, David Ward posts a comment claiming the study is wrong. What else would you expect a wind salesmen to say?!? If IER's numbers are wrong, it's that IER's figures on the costs associated with developing sprawling industrial wind factories are way TOO LOW! How do you a put a price on the thousands of residents' homes who have been rendered virtually worthless, and as a result, has devastated the tax bases of entire Towns and Counties that have been turned into industrial wind factories? How do you replace the eagles, whooping cranes, bats and other raptors that are being wiped out by these giant "Bird Cuisinarts"??? How do you repair the thousands of square miles of Habitat Fragmentation and clear-cutting of old-growth trees for an unreliable, inefficient 'green' energy boondoggle that does NOT replace anything, because it can NOT supply reliable, affordable, dispatchable, baseload power??? The answer -- You can't.
