After reading some of the comments from retired people, of which I am also, I have never thought for one minute that any revamping of ther ss would affect anyone who is retired now. It definitely needs to be changed for the future and the younger generation must begin to set aside for their own retiremnt. we oldsters were brain washed into thinking ss would cover all our needs and made no plans for the future. We were wrong. We raised three children on 4.00 an hour income. it would have been hard to plan for retirement, if we had not counted on Social Security we could have done it. Mary F Hill

Thank you Dr Williams for this column. I have been preaching this for several years to a friend. that we seniors are on the govt dole as ss recipients. My deceased husband was a govt employee and it took 14 months to use up what he had paid into the plan and then we had to start paying taxes on his retirement. I knew ss had to be similar.
