As I listen to the rhetoric about Afghanistan and Iraq and how we have to worry about our own domestic situation, I hear the voices of history. Before World II America was in the middle of the Great Depression and felt that the World was not our problem. Politicians and governments watched the rise of Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin and did nothing. Hitler was able to conquer Austria without a fight. He marched into Czechoslovakia with the blessing of the British government. We knew these men were evil and yet we did nothing. Millions died and America stood mute. After all America had our own problems. Then suddenly Pearl Harbor was bombed and the world’s problems were also ours. I ask myself if America had been vigilant and stopped...
