I don't mean righteous moral agents in terms of moral conduct per se, I mean in terms of what powers are to be secured by the various powers of government, including the right of the people to stop their leaders from lawlessness.

That is part of the problem, but not the biggest part. Even bigger is how ignorant Republican leaders are about the Constitution. Their supporters are equally ignorant. How on earth can GOP leaders stand up with vigor for their values if they don't know how to do it within the moral and legal framework of our federal republic? They end up looking like fools and dabbling in unconstitutional acts which undercut their moral high ground when the Democrats dabble in their unconstitutional act.

Also, most of the voting public are criminals. It is going to require teaching the people how to be righteous moral agents in a free system. Otherwise we are done for.

There still is some time left. Don't know how much.

No one should be the least bit surprised; Reid's been talking about this for awhile, and even moved unilaterally to alter long-standing Senate rules to shield his members from difficult votes last year (mission accomplished).  Filibuster "reform:" Coming soon to a Senate near you?
