The real solution to this issue is for gov't to take it proper role and not sanction marriages as that is something the church does. The gov't should guarantee everyone's rights by establishing a civil contract that conveys legal protections for inheritance, medical decisions, etc. Then couples can also go to their church to become married as the church sees fit. We keep batting this issue about and it shouldn't be something our gov't is involved in.
