"And if the amount of work done was spread more equally among the general public then the wealth would be spread more equally among the general public"

So am I to assume that waitresses, trash men, construction workers and janitorial staff in this country don't work hard? I think it was Michael Bloomberg who said that we shouldn't punish the financial sector too much because of all the blue collar workers who also work hard in that industry. And does being under or unemployed always mean that one is just lazy?

The subtext of yor comment seems to suggest that those who dont have a lot of money or a job at all do not work hard to earn a living or to find work to provide for themselves.

"People pay larger proportions of their incomes when they make more money. That is what is called a "progressive" tax rate and it's unfair"

I understand and respect your point of view. However we do have to fund the military, cops, firemen, public education, etc - all that has to be paid for by taxes. When taxes are cut too much, then most of things I just mentioned (outside of the military) get underfunded.

"Wealth is generated by the people who produce it. It is not something to be redistributed in any fashion"

I wasn't trying to argue about how wealth is created or whether wealth should or shouldn’t be spread around and all that. My only point was that people pay taxes in proportion to their incomes. Therefore, someone making 30,000 thousand a year is not going to pay the same amount of taxes as someone making 250,000 thousand a year. And because the very top 2 percent of this country has a disproportionate amount of the wealth, that top 2 percent are going to have to pay a disproportionate amount of the taxes; if their wealth were spread more equally amongst the general public, then so would their tax burden, it just a fact.

"Why do some people have to pay higher federal tax rates than other. Shouldn't the law protect each of us equally from legal theft by the federal government?"

People pay taxes in proportion to their income. The reason tax burden is unbalanced is because we have severe income inequality in this country. If the wealth were spread around more, so would the tax burden.

"Why do minorities get preferential treatment into colleges and universities with no regard as to their financial situations or upbringings? It's long time to move beyond affirmative action and other preference programs. Until we do, racism will forever be strong in our nation"

The country spent hundreds of years discriminating against people of color...

Arizona is the same vile state that refused to recognize the MLK holiday for years. Now Arizona will require people of color to be randomly stopped and searched like it's apartheid South Africa. A poor federal law in regards to illegal immigration doesn’t justify racist laws at the state level. The people of Arizona who support this should be ashamed.

“If everything that is wrong with the world becomes a reason to turn more power over to some political savior, then freedom is going to erode away,”

You know I somewhat agree with this statement, but I’m so tired of the double standards and selective outrage of conservatives. Now that someone that they don’t like is in office, conservatives are all of sudden concerned about the erosion of individual liberties along with several other things they turned a blind eye to over the past 8 nightmarish years.

Where was this concern during the prior 8 years when the Patriot Act was instituted along with warrant less wiretapping? Where was the outrage over the erosion of freedom because of those things? What about the erosion of...

“Anthony Thomas condemns Walter for not commenting on petty examples of racism.’

No racism is “petty”-the fact that you would use the word “petty” to describe what happened to those children and what happened to professor Gates says a lot about you. As I said, it doesn’t have to be an either or thing. You can criticize black failure WHILE criticizing anti black racism. But people like you and Williams are clearly just concerned with berating blacks for every thing up down and all around while being apologist for anti black racism.

My family got down on their knees and kissed the ground and praised God for allowing them to come here with literally only the clothing on their backs. This happened back in the 1920s and they had absolutely nothing to when they started.”

Well if you know anything about the European immigration of the 1920’s and 30’s , you know that even poor European immigrants-the Irish, Italians and so forth- were given preferential treatment over native blacks in hiring. There was definitely a level of domestic racism against European immigrants carried out by native European Americans. However,...

I do not dislike Williams because he’s conservative; I dislike him because he’s intellectually dishonest and criticizes black Americans while being an apologist for white racist. He’s writes column after column using specious and cherry picked data to malign blacks, but never writes about the historical or current affects of racism that blacks experience. He doesn’t recognize that it’s not an either or thing. He’s not balanced in his criticism at all and he intentionally serves as a pure racial arsonist for white conservatives with the nonsense he writes. Ignorance should always be combated- this is why I post here.

Would it have killed Williams to write a column about the 60 camp children that were blatantly discriminated...
