George, I rarely jump into the comment stream, but in your case I'll make an exception. I have a BA in History, with emphasis on US and Asian histories, from Tulane University. I have read EVERY major work on Vietnam. I am far more qualified to comment on the stratgeic failures in Vietnam than someone whose point of view is clearly limited to the tactical level and is plainly clouded by 35 years grousing about how unfair life has been since.

Nowhere have I placed the blame for our defeat, (yes, defeat, we left the battlefield inthe hands of the enemy), in the hands of those who fought at the tactical level. And if that be you, be proud of your service, but accept the fact that in the day, Vietnam was unwinnable on many...
