The Catholic Church is NOT economically liberal. Her doctrines are NOT economically liberal. But some of her members are. Do not get the two confused. ALSO, they do not want to control you at all. They and I want to lead you to Christ. You say you want freedom to do absolutely anything you choose. That is not freedom! That is license. With the license you want take perhaps further than you might really choose you would want the freedom to abort a baby, freedom to steal from your neighbor, freedom to murder... murder even your own brother. No real freedom, freedom of love, requires limits of action; the very limits that are given to us by God (Father, Son, and HS) through his Word and his Church. Peace be with you.

The warmth with which elderly Catholic nuns have been greeted on their cross-country bus tour to protest Republican cuts to the federal budget is hugely encouraging. The sisters and I may disagree about certain things, particularly the budget plan of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan -- who is Catholic -- but what a blessed country we live in, where a major public argument centers on how to best care for the poor and unfortunate.
